WHEN Beaconsfield resident Alessia Buccheri worked as a caterer, she noticed a lack of healthy options for customers.
To fill that niche, Ms Buccheri started her business Cocobanan, which provides sweet treats without processed sugar and fat.
Ms Buccheri said she was sick of seeing children fill up on sugary food with no nutritional value.
“Working at Subiaco Oval, we had thousands of people to feed and they were just filling up on burgers and meat pies,” Ms Buccheri said.
“It is just the norm to fill up on junk, sometimes people would come looking for a healthy option and we weren’t prepared for that.
“Being healthy should be the norm; it shouldn’t be a big deal.”
Since starting the business two months ago, the self-confessed foodie said she had catered for many children’s parties and events.
“We associate sugary food at children’s birthday parties to having a good time.”
Ms Buccheri said many parents were starting to become more health conscious.
“That’s where I can come in; my vegan ice creams and treats are really fun and appealing for kids
“Parents have really opened their eyes to fuelling their children with healthier treats without the colours, preservatives, sugars and toxins that are in children’s party foods.”
Ms Buccheri’s tried and tested recipes are available in a range of flavours.
“I’m always experimenting with different ice cream flavours which will really take off with summer on the way.
“My stepdad is a chef so it’s so common for us to be cooking and sharing recipe ideas in our home.
