I HAVE been devastated to see the suffering of the cattle and sheep on board the live export ship that was stranded in unbearably high temperatures just off the coast for weeks.
There were 13,000 suffering animals on board.
A number of cattle and sheep died and the exporter said of the deaths that they normally happened on those types of voyages when livestock were loaded and tended to happen early on in the voyage while animals were settling down.
It makes me sick to my stomach that these animals died while suffering and then it is treated as though they are just a number, a percentage.
For any animal to die suffering in this inhumane way clearly means conditions on board must be abhorrent.
I urge like-minded local residents to stand up and contact your local MP to voice your views on this barbaric trade of live animals.
Just because the port is in Fremantle does not mean this is not a local issue.
We cannot bury our heads in the sand and forget about the suffering of these living creatures.
