ADVENT is the period of four weeks before Christmas. It reflects the longing and yearning of the Jewish people for the coming of the Messiah. Christians use this period to prepare spiritually for Christmas.
There has been some beautiful music, including carols, written over the centuries by often well-known composers and some less well known for Advent and they are well worth hearing.
These carols are more about longing and waiting than the actual joy of the arrival of the Christchild, so they are different.
We are fortunate that St John’s is giving us a chance to hear some of these Advent Carols.
