Kites take toll on birds

In spite of multiple complaints from Safety Bay residents regarding the traffic hazards and other irresponsible behaviour by the proponents of this sport, the City of Rockingham continues to promote tourism at any cost.

Unfortunately, the cost has been high for the migratory birds that used to visit Tern Island for the nesting season each summer. Kite surfers and their dogs running loose on the sand bar constantly trample their nest sites.

Very few of the migratory birds such as the red-capped plover have returned this year.
