Opinion: Aus Day not okay

Hayley Bent, CloverdaleFremantle Gazette

AY OT OK

I AGREE wholeheartedly with Fremantle Council’s decision to change the date of their Australia Day celebrations and I will be attending the One Day celebrations with my family.

We do not celebrate the beginning of WWI or WWII, so why does Australia celebrate the beginning of 200 years of theft and genocide in Australia?

If Australia is serious about righting past wrongs and reconciling with Aboriginal people then changing this date across Australia would be great.
