Opinion: Empathy for complaints against Australia Post

Rodney Wells, Shenton ParkFremantle Gazette

I WOULD be among the many who can readily empathise with recent correspondents complaining of the woeful inadequacies and shortcomings of Australia Post.

A standard-sized letter posted by me in Shenton Park on March 5 to an address in North Fremantle has not been delivered and after recent enquiries, no trace of it can be found at the ‘dead letter’ facility.

Post offices now seem more intent upon competing with neighbouring small businesses selling stationery, gifts and books rather than concentrating on the original raison d’etre of a postal service, which once boasted ‘If it’s posted by 6pm in the metro area, it will be delivered within the metro area next day’.
