Opinion: It’s about the hens, not the eggs

REGARDING Frank Granger’s letter “Shell game” (Gazette, August 8), the fuss is not about free range eggs, it’s about the lives of the chickens.

Have you ever seen battery hens? It’s horrifying.

I have in the past adopted some to give them a chance to see the sun and dirt in the last few pitiful months of their lives.

The way we have bred and treated chickens is abhorrent. They are clever, sweet creatures.

Every time we buy eggs, we decide if these horrible practices will continue.
