Opinion: New stadium means treat for car thieves

Anne Thomson, SpearwoodFremantle Gazette

I was very pleased to read the article in the Gazette (January 9) regarding the bus service to the new stadium during the football season.

The article advises that the bus will leave from the Memorial Hall in Hamilton Hill, which is a fantastic idea and will service a huge number of supporters during the season.

As wonderful as this service will be, I would ask what parking has been allocated as people will still need to drive to the bus station, therefore leaving their cars unattended for 3-4, possibly 5 hours.

This would be a welcome treat to would-be opportunists breaking into so many vehicles. There is probably a good area behind the hall to cater for a number of vehicles sharing with the local bus service turnaround base, but I would like to think that there has been forethought as to also providing security watch on match days.
