IN his letter in last week’s edition headlined “Well done Freo”, Tom Wilson states that indigenous Australians have nothing to celebrate on Australia Day.
Given the simple fact that some nation was always going to invade and colonise this land, it seems to me to be a good reason that it was the English and not the Spanish or French.
Of course, we must have recognition but I watch the Perth fireworks every year and am always thrilled to see all families, regardless of race or creed, just celebrating a national day and knowing how lucky we are to live free in Australia.
I always come away with a great sense of community and I think it is ridiculous that Fremantle has cancelled this great event.
