Sad to see Fremantle in such decline

Fremantle: Out with the atmosphere, in with the sterility.
Fremantle: Out with the atmosphere, in with the sterility.

MANY years ago, my young daughter and I lived in Trigg. What a treat it was going to Freo for the Saturday or Sunday to eat and walk around.

After living in Sydney, my husband and I returned to WA and were excited we find the right house in Freo 11 years ago.

Sadly, as mentioned in a letter in last week’s edition, Freo was not so good; all had gone woosh… all that lovely Italian atmosphere gone.

All the shops were replaced by mainly op shops.

That wonderful atmosphere has gone and only a sterile place like Lego blocks left.

We live in an area where the residents are all long-time ones, much longer than us, and in chatting to neighbours they do not go near Fremantle to shop and neither do I.

Instead, we head for Palmyra, Booragoon and Hampton Road and you can park free in all these places too.

As we live on a feed-off road from High Street with traffic coming from all directions and near Boo Park, I requested speed bumps because even getting out my driveway is hazardous.

No, this will not happen until the plans for the Roe Highway were established.

With cars reversing from Boo Park I could see the danger, which was ignored, and did witness an accident directly after this refusal.

Will they wait until a family with children are killed?

Our mayor lives in Stephens Street, which does not have this influx of traffic but does have many speed bumps.

It beggars belief so much money spent on “container” exhibits when traffic lights are so much needed for left and right turns on High Street.
