Sorry Saga of Jarrah Tree in Coolbellup

Janice TeoFremantle Gazette

I WAS saddened and angered to see the result of Main Roads’ premature directive to have a majestic, centuries-old jarrah tree felled along Forrest Road, Coolbellup.

On what basis did the arborist conclude that this tree was dangerous?

The stump surface was the typical rich red of the jarrah. It looked very healthy to me.

The contractors managed to destroy a number of small banksia and gum trees with their vehicles, and then dropped the large jarrah with little regard to the understory that included mature grasstrees, some of which were damaged.

In addition, a large beehive at the top of the tree was destroyed.

A thorough investigation of this sorry saga is warranted; shame on you Main Roads.
