Thinking errors

Janice TeoFremantle Gazette

IN response to Dorothy Davidson's letter in last week's Gazette headlined "There's always protesters", the 60-year old Stephenson-Hepburn plan upon which the Perth Freight Link is based, which Dorothy extols, includes the filling in of Herdsman Lake for building the northern part of her "road of national importance"

We are in a new century now and the first step in improving Fremantle Port freight movements is eliminating the 30 per cent of trucks that run empty.

Moving the empty container park to where it is needed would be easy and cheap.

Increasing freight on rail could then cut truck movements through Fremantle by up to 50 pr cent. Only after that should major infrastructure be considered.
