Wetlands valued

Staff ReporterFremantle Gazette

IN response to Mr Rex Sallur’s letter in last week’s Gazette headlined ‘Save wetland’, the City of Cockburn continues to be a leading protector of wetlands in the State.

This has been highlighted by council’s ongoing opposition to the destruction of Bibra Lake and North Lake by the construction of the Roe Highway extension.

To suggest that the City’s Regional Physical Aquatic and Education Centre will not retain the valuable water body at Cockburn Central is incorrect.

The City has negotiated the best outcome for the wetland with LandCorp, ensuring that this important water body is retained and incorporated into the overall subdivision.

It places a high value on wetlands and has been awarded many conservation awards in recognition of its environmental protection.
