Bryce LuffFremantle Gazette

FREMANTLE has secured the services of Geelong forward Shane Kersten.

The 23-year-old has signed a three-year deal at Dockerland, returning to WA in a deal that will see Fremantle’s fourth round pick, selection 63, heading to Geelong.

Kersten, who was originally drafted from South Fremantle with pick 34 in the 2011 draft, joins premiership players Joel Hamling and Brad Hill, together with Giants forward Cam McCarthy, as incoming players picked up by the Dockers during the trade period.

Fremantle list manager Brad Lloyd said the club was pleased to get the deal done before the trade period lapsed.

“Shane had a strong year in 2016 playing in Geelong’s forward line, where he showed his ability to play his role and kick goals,” he said.

“We look forward to Shane adding to Fremantle’s forward line and being a long-term player for the club.”

The 191cm Kersten kicked 22 goals from 17 games in 2016.

Fremantle will enter the November draft period with pick seven (1st round) and pick 40 (2nd round).
