A KALLAROO student has made history, picked with the Fremantle Dockers first selection in the inaugural AFL Women’s draft.

Hayley Miller (20), a talented defender with the Coastal Titans, will play for the Dockers in next year’s competition after she was selected at pick four in the draft.

Interviewed by the Fremantle Gazette in August, the Curtin University student said it was an exciting time to be a female footballer.

“It’s a very exciting time in female football at the moment and the exposure and coverage that we have received in the last year or two has been incredible,” she said.

“I never played football as a kid; I played just about every other sport but definitely grew up in a footy loving family who were all diehard Eagles fans.

“I think it’s still the love of the sport that drives me to be a better player and the enjoyment factor that makes me want to play, not the potential to get paid or the media attention that comes with being a semi-professional athlete.

“Those extra things just become a bonus for me if I get drafted to play.”
