Australia to tackle New Zealand in Perth: Rugby

PERTH rugby league fans are in for a treat with Perth Oval to host a trans-Tasman clash in October.

World Cup-winning Australia will tackle top-ranked New Zealand in the lead up to the Four Nations tournament in the UK.

The Kiwis currently hold the Four Nations crown after beating Australia in the final in 2014.

Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies expected more fixtures to head to WA in the future.

“The National Rugby League knows what a loyal fan base rugby league has in the west and the opportunities will only increase with Perth Stadium coming on line in 2018,” she said.

“The Perth Stadium gives rise to the possibility of State of Origin, NRL premiership and other international rugby league matches becoming regular fixtures, presenting enormous opportunities, with a capacity for rugby league matches of 65,000.”
