Basketball: Fremantle PCYC youngsters are all stars

Jessica NicoFremantle Gazette

FREMANTLE PCYC could have some future national and international basketballers on their hands after almost two dozen juniors were recognised for outstanding performances last season.

Playing in the Cockburn Basketball Association’s domestic junior competition, PCYC not only had three grand final winners in the Division 1 under 10 boys, Division 3 under 10 boys and Division 1 under 12 boys, but the association dubbed 17 of their players allstars, rewarding them for being in the top five players in the age group.

Another four players got top honours with age-group MVP awards.

PCYC’s Anthony Moreschi, who took out the under 18 boys MVP award, said it really was a great sport to play.

“My parents both played, they kinda forced me into playing but I eventually fell in love with it,” he said.

“It’s so enjoyable, all the guys I play with are really good and we all really get along.

“It was my last year and after being injured the season before I wanted to do really well and I did.”

Moreschi scored 491 points at just under 29 points a game in his award-winning season, a stat many NBA players would give anything to have.
