Basketball WA State Championships: local teams well represented

IT was a low scoring game, but Lakeside Lightning’s under-15 women held its nerve to beat Rockingham in week one of the 2016 Basketball WA State Championships.

Lakeside’s division 1 team got off to a shaky start, conceding the first four points to its opponents before Montana Turnbull got the team started with the first of a game-high 10 points.

The team settled and in a close game where the margin never exceeded five points, Lakeside was crowned 21-17 victors.

Cockburn’s under-17 Division 2 men also made it to the grand final, but went down to Willetton 31-24 while Lakeside’s under-19 Division 1 men went down to Joondalup 52-46.

The 2016 Basketball WA State Championships continue this weekend, with Cockburn and Lakeside teams competing in the under-11 men and women and the under-13 men competitions.
