Bird set to fly at Junior Hockey World Cup

Jessica NicoFremantle Gazette

ALL eyes might be on Australia’s Olympic teams next month, but for one local up-and-comer, it is all about the Junior Hockey World Cup later this year.

Coolbellup’s Matthew Bird, who plays for the Fremantle Hockey Club, was picked in the 25-man national junior squad in preparation for the world cup, which will be held in India.

Bird was one of only four West Australian’s picked in the team, with the squad considered to be the next generation of Australian hockey champions.
