Fremantle Sailing Club, champion and medal winners among its ranks

Jaime Ryan and Coogee’s Carrie Smith were crowned Australian 470 Women’s Champions following the 2015 Australian 470 National Championships, which were held in Victoria.

Over two days of racing, Smith and Ryan showed off their ability to stay calm and sail through tricky conditions, one of the big reasons they were able to secure Australia a spot at next year’s Olympics in Rio.

There was very little time to celebrate, with both women jumping back in the water just two days later to compete in the ISAF Sailing World Cup event.

The Fremantle Sailing Club performed well at the ISAF Sailing World Cup, snaring more than half a dozen medals in the international competition.

Ryan and Smith continued their winning ways, taking out gold in the 470 women, while Caitlin Elks also picked up a gold alongside Victorian counterpart Tess Lloyd in the 49erFX Women category.

Youth team sailors Nia Jerwood and Lisa Smith also took home gold in the International 420.

Also making the medal podium were Laser Radial sailors Alistair Young and Caelin Winchcombe, who finish second and third respectively, and Laser 4.7 sailor Hailey Johnson who won a silver.
