The boys were among 16 best high school players in the state chosen to represent WA when the best of the best from around the country come to Perth for the tournament.

Ryan said his love of hockey grew from his uncle, who also represented WA, and he was eager to follow in his footsteps come August.

"Naturally I was very excited to find out I had made the team because I had been working hard for a long time and making this team was my ultimate goal, and so it was very rewarding to learn that I had made it," he said.

"I am also very honoured to be able to represent WA at a national competition. I am very excited for the competition, and having played at a national tournament before, I know it will be a lot of fun and will be a very enjoyable and unforgettable experience.

"I think the team has the potential to perform very well at nationals, and I believe that we are going to be quite successful at the tournament."
