Cockburn Dragon Boat Club hosts event for Transplant Australia WA Branch

Recently, locals were invited to attend a Transplant Australia WA Branch try-out for dragon boating, hosted by the Cockburn Dragon Boat Club out of the East Fremantle Yacht Club.

Many of those who took part in the day had never tried the sport before.

A spokeswoman for the Transplant Australia WA branch said some of the participants had only recently been fighting for life before being on the receiving end of an organ or tissue donation.

She said dragon boating was new to this year’s games, with a race between participating states just before the opening ceremony to be held as a celebration of life rather than a trophy event.

The Australian Transplant Games will be held in Penrith, NSW from September 24 to October 1.
