Held at the Cockburn Cougars base in Hamilton Hill, the competition will see teams ranging from Under 12s to Under 20s compete to be named the best in the first Classic fixture of the year.

There are not just bragging rights on the line, with the top three teams in the U14 girls and boys competition to be given a qualifying place in the 2016 National Club Championships.

Cockburn Cougars operations manager Graeme Pratt said there would be 40 teams competing on each weekend, bring up to 1500 people to the stadium every day.

The Cougar Classic will run from February 27 to March 20.

In more good news for the club, 2015 US import Najee Lane will return to the men’s side for the upcoming SBL season.

Lane dominated in his first year in the SBL, averaging 22.2 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists a game.

Both Cougars SBL teams will kick off their 2016 against the Perth Redbacks on March 19.
