TEN young basketballers will look to stamp their names on the sport when they compete in the Australian U14 Boys Club Championships next week.
The Cockburn Cougars U14 team will join fellow WA teams Perry Lakes, Joondalup and Willetton in the national competition, which will see them pitted against the best young basketballers from across the country.
Cockburn will take part in the competition for the first time since 2008, and will take on Keilor Thunder, Darwin Cyclones and the Gosford City Rebels in their round robin group.
Team manager Denise Garbellini said the team were hoping to pick up Cockburn’s first U14 Boys Club Championship title since the competition began in 1970.
“We really don’t know how they will go as they have not had the exposure to this level of competition, but we are expecting Victorian and New South Wales teams to be challenging for us. It gives them exposure to another level of competition, and hopefully making friendships with players from all over Australia,” she said.
The championships are on at the Bendat Basketball Stadium from September 28 to October 3.
