IT was not a great start to the Fremantle Dockers’ AFLW campaign in Saturday’s match against the Western Bulldogs.

Kicking just one goal for the whole game courtesy of Melissa Caulfield in the first quarter, the Dockers went down 44-12 in their first official game.

Captain Kara Donnellan led from the front with 16 disposals, while teammates Belinda Smith (17) and Dana Hooker (15) also got plenty of the ball despite the disappointing result.

Smith said it was hard to deal with a loss in their first match.

“I’m pretty shattered at the moment,” she said. “It wasn’t our best footy and we’ve got a lot more to give out there.

“We just didn’t want it as much but we’ve got so much more in us and we’re going to focus on that for next week.”

A big crowd is expected to descend on Fremantle Oval this Sunday for the Dockers’ first home game against Brisbane, with bouncedown at 4.05pm.
