FREMANTLE marquee Kiara Bowers has undergone surgery on the injured right knee that will keep her out of the inaugural AFL women’s competition in 2017.

Dockers coach Michelle Cowan told the club’s website she had spoken with surgeons and was assured the “standard patellar tendon graft procedure” had gone well.

Bowers injured her ACL while playing for Coastal Titans during the WAWFL semi-finals in mid-August.

Cowan said the club still saw a non-playing role for Bowers in 2017.

“She has lots of room to grow in regards to her leadership and will play a role in mentoring our younger players,” she said.

The Dockers will top up their list at the draft on October 12.

Their earliest pick is selection four.

Greater Western Sydney secured pick one.
