The Melville Water Polo Club player was not only selected as the sole goalkeeper, he was also named to captain the other 10 members of the squad, including classmate Nicholas McMahon.
“I feel very privileged to be selected for such a prestigious team,” Deluca said.
“I am excited to take advantage of what this team has to offer and can’t wait to get in the pool with the boys.
“I think that as long as we train hard and go into our games with a positive mindset we will be a very hard team to beat.
“We have some very talented boys in the team and will be great to play with these skilful boys.”
Four of the boys selected, including McMahon, play for Melville.
“I enjoy water polo for the physical fitness, the travel you get to do and the friends you get to make,” McMahon said.
“I think that if we play well and as a team we will get a medal but I’m not too sure what colour it will be.”
The water polo competition will be held in Canberra from May 22-27.
