ALL these children need to be happy is a hockey stick and a ball.

The Fremantle Hockey Club’s Hook in2 Hockey program gives local children aged four to nine the chance to learn the fundamentals of the sport.

The club and its players, young and old, will be one of hundreds around the country enjoying the inaugural National Hockey Week, a chance to celebrate the sport and the grassroots clubs so important to local communities.

It has been a big few weeks for the Fremantle club, which has also been named a Hockey Hub for the Fremantle and Cockburn area, allowing it to continue its work growing the sport for locals of all ages, genders, abilities and experience levels.

Fremantle Hockey Club’s Matt Allan said there were plenty of upcoming events to give young children a taste of hockey.

“We will be running our inaugural school holiday Hockey Academy in July,” he said.

“Entries are open to boys and girls in school years 3 to 10, welcoming beginners to advanced skill levels.”
