LOCAL footballers can prove they belong at the top level when the Fremantle Dockers run a women’s talent search on Saturday.
Emmanuel College in Success will host the four-hour program of drills and exercises, designed to test football skills and all-round athleticism.
While securing some of the state’s best footy talent will be a priority, the club has encouraged athletes outside of the state football system to have a crack.
The Dockers recently locked in Kiara Bowers and Kara Donnellan as marquee players and hope to build a side around their new stars.
Coach Michelle Cowan has made it clear she wants WA players to make up the bulk of her fledgling list.
“I’m a passionate West Australian and I want to see WA girls playing for WA teams,” she said.
“There’s a lot of depth here in WA and we’re looking forward to casting the net far and wide, looking at the other sports and getting up far north in WA.
“It’s a really big state and there’s a lot of talent out there.
“We’re not too worried about the talent that has headed (east) because we know the actual depth here in WA is incredible and we’ll continue to go to the next girl who is just as excited.
