Jessica NicoFremantle Gazette

THE Fremantle Roosters are crowing after three of their young players earned the chance to represent WA in the 2019 U18 Affiliated State Championships.

Kicking off in Darwin on Friday, teams from WA, Victoria, the Northern Territory and a President’s XIII will compete over three days for the right to be named the best team of 2019.

Among the WA side are Fremantle’s own Gethin Thomas, Jonathan Araya Aliivaa and Nicholas Riggs, who are eager to make a name for themselves in national rugby league circles.

A Fremantle Roosters Junior Rugby League Club spokesperson said they were “extremely proud” of the trio, who were now seeing rewards after years of hard work.

“The experience the kids have and their consistency and commitment to training and rugby league, whether it be in a grassroots side or a representative side, will give them the knowledge and experience to showcase their talents on a much larger scale,” she said.

“It can only be a great experience as these boys can bring their experience and knowledge back to the Fremantle Roosters and help their U17s team climb the 2019 Junior Rugby League ladder and help take them to the Junior Grand final in September. “The specialised training they get from a rep team will stay with them a lifetime.”

The WA team kicks off their campaign against Victoria on June 7 at 2.30pm WA time.
