Fremantle celebrates its preliminary final win against Willetton.

The Port Boys are just one game away from breaking that drought, beating Willetton on Sunday to secure their place in this weekend’s grand final against Rockingham-Mandurah.

Fremantle got off to a dream start, bowling out opponents Willetton for just 66 runs in the opening innings courtesy of a devastating six-over spell of bowling from Jarryd McPhee, who took five wickets for just five runs.

Jhye Richardson, back from his Sheffield Shield debut, took 3-9 and smashed 60 runs off his bat to help Fremantle to 223 runs in reply.

With a lead of 157, Fremantle again went in to bowl, this time facing a more determined Willetton who toughed out the onslaught to post 249.

Chasing 92 runs for victory, Fremantle needed just 26 overs off the back of a 46-run innings from Ashton Turner to see themselves into this weekend’s grand final, to be held at the WACA.
