Florian Gruber (19) won the competition from a large and strong field of competitors when he took out every race bar three in the five-day competition, which ended on Sunday.
European Champion Olly Bridge (16) from the UK and Italy’s Riccardo Leccese finished second and third respectively, while Fremantle’s Torvar Mirsky and NSW competitor Ric Black were the only Australians to finish in the top 10.
Gruber said it was good to win the last race, and he would party during his last few days in Perth.
‘I do enjoy the light wind a bit more, but I trained more in strong winds and now have the perfect package,’ he said.
‘This event is so nice, so well organised, everything about it is great – the location, conditions.’
In the women’s competition, Poland’s Aga Grzymska was champion and France’s Ariane Imbert and Spain’s Nuria Goma came second and third. Queensland’s Lisa Hickman was the highest placed Australian, finishing in fourth. The Kiteracing Oceanic Championships return to Fremantle in December 2014.
