Local karate kid picks up medals at National Karate Titles

Jessica NicoFremantle Gazette

LOCAL teenager Jes Bromley is seeing the world in shiny shades of gold and bronze after winning two medals at a national karate tournament recently.

The 13-year-old member of the Brian Mackie Karate Academy in O’Connor flew to Melbourne for the Australian Karate Federation’s 2016 National Karate Titles earlier this month, bringing home a gold medal in the individual kumite competition and a bronze in the team kumite.

Having also competed in the Winter Goju Kai Karate Tournament at Wesley College last weekend, Jes said he loved karate since starting at the O’Connor academy when he was six.

“This tournament is special to me, it is where I learnt how to compete,” he said.
