Magpies swoop at national tournament

Evenly split between WA’s two teams, James Leigh, Kyle Potter and Riley Faulds (Gold) as well as Trent Potter, Ethan Stirrat and Lachie James (Black) were given the opportunity to compete against some of the best young hockey players from around the country in the tournament, which was held from April 12 to 20.

Both teams had some success, with WA Gold winning six and drawing one of their seven matches while WA Black won four and drew one.

WA Gold finished the tournament with a third place, while WA Black was named the plate winner for the best performing team in the 2nd tier competition.

Fremantle Hockey Club junior vice-president Duncan Faulds said the club was proud of the performance.

‘Freo Magpies continue to punch well above their weight in terms of State team representation and on field success,’ he said.
