A NAME change is on the cards for Fremantle Hockey Club.

With their move to a brand new facility in South Lake imminent, attendees at the club’s AGM last Tuesday voted to change their name to the Fremantle Cockburn Hockey Club.

The name change will kick in from the start of the 2020 Hockey WA season.

The club colours will remain black and white and they will still be referred to as the Magpies.

Fremantle Hockey Club men’s vice president Matt Allan said they were excited to continue the club’s 85 year legacy at a new home.

“The name change reflects the location of our new home, whilst respecting our heritage,” he said.

“We began at Gil Fraser Reserve in North Fremantle in 1933, subsequently moving to Gibson Park and Stevens Reserve, and this is another great step in the evolution of the club.

“We can’t wait to get on the turf at the Lakelands Hockey Facility.”

Allan said the club expected their new facilities would be completed by August.
