Belinda CiprianoFremantle Gazette

NEWLY signed Portuguese winger Fabio Ferreira is looking forward to taking to the field with his teammates, after signing a one-year deal with Perth Glory earlier this month.

The 29-year-old, who was on the books at both Sporting Lisbon and Chelsea Football Club as a teenager, represented Portugal at every level from Under-16 through to Under-19.

The versatile attacking midfielder first came to the attention of A-League followers when he debuted for Adelaide United in 2012.

He went on to make 51 league appearances for the Reds across three seasons, scoring 13 goals in the process and coming off the bench against Glory in the 2014 FFA Cup Final.

Impressing new coach Tony Popovic during a recent two-week trial, Ferreira said he was looking forward to the new season.

“He (Tony) asked me to come here to train with the team for two weeks and after those two weeks he wanted to sign me so I was very happy,” he said.

“I wanted to take the challenge and want to be important for the team.”

With the signings of Matthew Spiranovic, Ivan Franjic and Jason Davidson set to bolster the squad, Ferreira said he was hoping the team would achieve big things this year.

“We have a very strong squad and that’s good, everyone wants to play,” he said.

“So it is going to keep the competition on their toes and obviously hopefully we can do something very big this season with the signings we have made.

“The team we have is looking very strong and very good .”
