Players catch a break

Jessica NicoFremantle Gazette

AS many as 11 players could be rested for Saturday's game as the Fremantle Dockers look to freshen up players before the finals.

The club's early review has up to a dozen players from yesterday's 54-point win against Melbourne sitting out this weekend's match against Port Adelaide as they look to manage soreness ahead of the finals.

The Dockers will finish on top of the ladder regardless of Saturday's result.

Fremantle chief executive Steve Rosich said medical staff and the coaching team would discuss the issue when players returned to the club tomorrow.

Ageing stars Matthew Pavlich, Aaron Sandilands, Luke McPharlin and David Mundy are those most likely to be rested, while others like Garrick Ibbotson, Danyle Pearce, Nick Suban, Michael Barlow, Stephen Hill and Lachie Neale have played every game this season and could also earn a break.

Injured teammates Nat Fyfe, Hayden Ballantyne and Michael Walters should remain on the sidelines.

The AFL released a statement this afternoon saying the club was entitled to manage injury and fatigue and that they were complying with AFL rules.
