Rio Olympics: Freo’s Minjee Lee within striking distance after first round of women’s golf

WEST Aussie golfer Minjee Lee is within striking distance at Rio after carding a two under 69 after the first round of the women’s golf.

The Royal Fremantle product is equal 11th, four shots behind leader Ariya Jutanugarn (Thailand) who fired a six under 65.

After a strong start that included a birdie at the first and fifth hole, Lee began to struggle with bogeys on holes six, 10 and 11.

However, she recovered to birdie 15, 17 and 18 to consolidate 11th, sitting alongside eight other players including Ladies Professional Gold Association number one Lydia Ko (New Zealand).

Round two tees off at 6.30pm tonight (AWST).
