THEY left home as sailors and returned as World Champions.

Fremantle Sailing Club’s Annabelle Davies and Hayley Clark won the 29er Female World Championship in the Netherlands, beating their Polish opponents by just one point after the Poles were disqualified in the final race.

Clark said it was an exciting competition but they did not think they could win.

“It was a small chance to be on our game,” she said.

Fremantle’s Zoe Thomson has also been crowed world champion, taking out the Laser Radial Youth Girls Championships in Ireland.

Fellow Fremantle sailor Elyse Ainsworth finished ninth overall, but was the best Laser Radial Youth Girl under the age of 17.
