SBL: Cockburn Cougars big winners at end of season awards

FURTHER reward has come for the Cockburn Cougars following the State Basketball League’s end of season awards on Saturday night.

Matt Parsons, the architect behind Cockburn’s charge to 2016 male division champions, was named men’s SBL Coach of the Year.

Cougars skipper and three-point king Gavin Field, who missed the grand final win through injury, and import Marcus Goode, a league leader for blocks and rebounds, made the All Star 5 side.

Fellow import Najee Lane made the All Defensive 5 team.

Candace Williams made the women’s All Star 5 side as a power forward, having led the competition for points (28 per game) and rebounds (16).

Cockburn’s Peter Stanley won the SBL Volunteer of the Year award, while Tammy Ong was named Statistician of the Year.

Cockburn’s Aussie Hoops program claimed Association Program of the Year.
