Bryce LuffFremantle Gazette

THE Spearwood Bowling Club achieved a club first during the recent Bowls WA Second Division and Under competition last month.

Ned Gaspar claimed the division two singles title after defeating Joe Rollnik 21-20, while Ivan Unkovich and Ken Nadilo were winners in the pairs section after outlasting Peter Allen and Egon Mickolajzyk 19-9.

It was the first time in the club’s 22-year history it has claimed a state bowls event.

It followed a successful 2015-16 season for the club with its top team gaining promotion to division one.

After a five-month pennant season, the midweek team earned a well-deserved elevation to the top tier while the club’s second division Saturday team finished third in its league.

Spearwood’s fourth division Saturday side finished first and claimed the pennant flag, also earning promotion.

The club, based at Azelia Road in Spearwood, will head into a winter recess where more casual games are on the cards.
