Despite the wet and cold conditions, the 15-year-olds managed to complete the 20 kilometre swim in five hours and 39 minutes.
The feat was even more impressive for Fitzgerald considering he represented Emmanuel Catholic College at the Associated and Catholic Colleges’ swimming carnival on March 19 and competed in the senior State Surf Life Saving Championships on March 21.
Fitzgerald also competed in the Rottnest Channel Swim with his family earlier this month.
