Triathlon: 70.3 Busselton a family affair for Coolbellup family

Jessica NicoFremantle Gazette

TRIATHLON runs in the blood of one Coolbellup family.

For the last 25 years, Fremantle Triathlon Club’s Michael Liddelow has been taking his family to events to cheer him on, but this weekend’s usual family trip to the 70.3 Busselton will be a little different.

Liddelow’s four children, Connor, Sinead, Caitlin and Aidan, will still accompany him to the event but this time, they will be competing too.

The 48-year-old said he was looking forwarded to his children competing alongside him, even if they had not stopped trying to psych each other out.

“This year it has been so much fun with all the kids doing the race and all the trash talk at home, it has just been the best year,” he said.

“When they were little kids they used to get dragged up to Sorrento, down to Mandurah at 5.30 in the morning to watch me race so they grew up in triathlon.”

But his well-wishes for his children has not stopped Liddelow setting his own goals, saying he hoped to break the five hour mark after remaining injury free during the lead up.

The 70.3 Busselton is on May 7.
