WA Basketball League: Lakeside Lightning take home three trophies in grand finals

GOOD things come in threes, just ask the Lakeside Lightning after taking home three trophies from the recent WA Basketball League grand finals.

With three teams playing off in the penultimate game, Lakeside took out a clean sweep.

A tight tussle in the under-12 Championship Girls division came up purple for the local team, beating Willetton 33-31 after being down by 10 points at half time.

Ashlyn Farrington top scored for Lakeside with nine points.

In the under-12 division 2 boys competition, Lakeside again took on Willetton, this time taking out the game by four points, Lance Ugle getting a game high 21 points.

Also coming up trumps was the Lightning’s under-20 men’s team, who smashed Joondalup 95-71, Alex Lathbury top scoring with 20 points.

The Cockburn Cougars had one team in the grand finals, but the under-16 division 1 boys went down to Perry Lakes 82-69, despite strong showing from Derek Igbenoba (28 points) and Tim Komaiya (20 points).
