SOUTH FREMANTLE will help kick-start round 18 of the WAFL with a top-of-the-table clash against Subiaco at Leederville Oval tonight.

The stage is set for the league’s three best sharpshooters to show what they have got, with Channel 7 beaming the match into homes at 7pm on sister channel 7Mate.

Subiaco’s Hamish Shepheard has booted 35 goals in a productive season, with Bulldogs power forward Ben Saunders close behind with 34 and teammate Mason Shaw on 31.

The match will mark Ryan Cook’s 86th appearance as South Fremantle skipper, meaning the former Collingwood player overtakes Peter Worsfold as the club’s longest serving captain.

“These personal achievements are something I think a player looks back on once their career has ended and appreciates more,” Cook said in his player column.

“Right now my mind is firmly focused on helping drive this group to a premiership.

“It would be extra special to experience that with everyone involved in the club from the coaches and players to the support staff and members.”

The Bulldogs are one game behind the Lions following two defeats and the bye over the last three weeks.

The Lions are on a mixed run, winning three of its last five but falling in its last clash to Perth.

Head to head, the Lions have 14 wins from 20 against South Fremantle at Leederville Oval, and won the last match between the two sides 15.16 (106) to 10.15 (75) earlier this season.

East Fremantle tackle Swan Districts at Bassendean Oval on Saturday in a bid to get its season back on track.

The Sharks have not won in four starts and are now outside the top five after being usurped by West Perth.

The Swans are currently anchored to the bottom of the table with just two wins for the year.
