IN a coup for the Fremantle Sailing Club, one of the most recognised names in Australian sailing has been named a club ambassador for 2017.

Wild Oats XI skipper Mark Richards was named the International 420 Class World Championships Ambassador for next year’s competition.

As well as the 420 Class competition, Fremantle will also host the Ladies and Under-17s World Championships from December 15 to 23, 2017.

International 420 Class Association president Nino Shmueli said the last time Fremantle hosted the 420 competition was in 1995 and that it was hoped Richards as ambassador would bolster the future of sailing in Perth.
