Rhys Pelliccione and eight other Cockburn Hawks players will be looking for a solid result this coming August when they battle Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania.
As a goalkeeper, Pelliccione said he would be working hard to keep out the goals, with a tournament aim to have fun and learn from the experience.
Despite being his side’s last line of defence, he said it was a position he relished.
‘Being an ice hockey goalkeeper is the position I have wanted to play ever since I began learning ice hockey,’ the 12-year-old Seton student said.
‘The puck comes at you very hard and fast and you have to react very quickly and you have to learn lots of ways to block the puck with your stick and with your body.
‘One of the best parts of being a goalkeeper is at the end of each game when all the team rushes the goalkeeper and jumps all over you. ‘
The Ottawa Senators fan said it had been his dream to represent WA for three years.
