A cause close to her heart

By the time she was nine, her mother lost her six-year battle with the cancer.

Ten years later in 2008, Ms Court got the news her father was diagnosed with stomach cancer.

Determined to do something for others going through the same ordeal, she signed up for the HBF Run for a Reason event in 2011 and 2012 in a bid to fundraise for Cancer Council WA, eventually raising more than $10,000 for the two events.

In the lead-up to this year’s run, Ms Court, who grew up in Mandurah, has already raised more than $7000, making her the third highest fundraiser overall.

‘The idea of raising money for a charity that I care a great deal about by doing something that I love seemed perfect,’ she said.

‘My dad is always telling me how proud he is of what I am doing and how proud my mum would be of the person I have grown up to be.

‘Giving to a charity which helps those suffering from cancer and the families who are dealing with the impacts of this disease is of great importance to me and I want to make a difference to the lives of other patients and families suffering because of cancer.’
