FOLLOW the Dream is coming true for Swan View Senior High School Year 12 student Chei-Lani Bialobrodzki who is headed to Italy on a yearlong student exchange.
Chei-Lani has had a dream to live and study in Italy since she completed a project on Italy in primary school.
Her dream will be reality when she prepares to travel to Italy in January on a yearlong exchange program.
“Travel to another country, the opportunity to live there and experience the culture, language and lifestyle has always been a dream of mine,” she said.
“I am going to grab this opportunity with both hands and do everything I can to make it a reality.”
On her list of must-sees is the Colosseum, Milan and the works of Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci .
She is also looking forward to sampling the local cuisine and learning how to cook like an Italian.
“I am passionate about food and work one day a week at Taylor’s Art Cafe in the Swan Valley,” she said.
“I plan to learn how to make authentic Italian meals with my host family and of course preparing and sharing meals is a great way of connecting with others.”
Follow The Dream co-ordinator Nicola Angell said Chei-Lani was a wonderful young woman and an inspirational ambassador for Indigenous Australians.
“I know Chei-Lani will embrace this once in a lifetime opportunity and is so grateful to be selected,” Ms Angell said.
“But I think her host family, school and community will be lucky to have Chei-Lani in their lives.”
The exchange program is being offered through Youth for Understanding Australia and New Zealand and while Chei-Lani has received a scholarship through the organisation, she has to raise an additional $7000 to complete the trip.
“I work part-time, I am fund raising at school and in the community and am also looking for local sponsors as well,” she said.
If any local businesses or organizations are interested in sponsoring Chei-Lani’s exchange to, Italy, they can get in touch with her through Swan View Senior High School.
