City of Perth appoints acting chief executive officer

Denise CahillCommunity News

THE City of Perth appointed Murray Jorgensen acting chief executive at special council meeting this afternoon.

Commissioners voted unanimously to appoint Mr Jorgensen after terminating Martin Mileham’s contract last month.

Mr Jorgensen will start his nine month term on Monday.

A report presented to commissioners said an external person was needed for up to nine months because of the existing workload on Perth directors.

“It was important to commissioners the successful candidate was sourced externally to bring clear thinking and an independent approach to the role, and the ability to deliver exceptional leadership,” Chair Commissioner Eric Lumsden said.

“Mr Jorgensen has extensive experience in local government and the private sector, and will be an asset to the City with his emphasis on leadership and strategy and a focus on genuine sustainable outcomes for the community, business and City staff alike,” he said.

Perth’s previous acting chief executive was Director of Planning and Development Erica Barrenger.
